Hi, Chicago! I hope that you have all had just the loveliest time imaginable this past weekend! I know I did! I went to smartbar twice for Nip Slip x Mama’s House and Acid Queen! with my friends. After the passing of Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, I had a really tough time. I think right now, we all feel so mortal. We all feel so expendable to the forces and powers that be and to lose people whose work feels immortally good (and truly is), feels like a massive loss. I was thankfully reminded that community, friends, and chosen-family are always a safe place for me to go to cry, to move through things, and to just be. I hope you all have that as well. It’s the first week of September, and we’ve got some amazing stuff popping up around Chicago! So, let’s get to it!

Let’s start with Swedish pop star, Robyn, who’s bringing her Sexistential Tour to Chicago next Saturday, September 12th. So, you should “call your girlfriend” and enter our giveaway for 2 free tickets to the concert!

CENTER ON HALSTED HAS GOT IT ALL!

We’re always happy to share our advice and knowledge on ticketed events here at (Gay) Do312, but I understand there isn’t a bunch of money going around these days. I wanted to shine a brighter light on some things happening just up the street or down the block for some of us at Center On Halsted! Center On Halsted is the premier choice for all LGBTQ+ needs here in Chicago! Beyond being the largest LGBTQ+ center in the midwest, it has entertainment, career, and activity options for queer people and allies across Chicago. Take a look, please!

DON’T DREAM IT, BE IT.

Last week, we lost the iconic Tim Curry. Curry graced screens as Pennywise the Clown (It), Wadsworth (Clue, 1985), and, most iconically, Frank-N-Furter (The Rocky Horror Picture Show). He inspired countless queer people to walk with their heads held high, to be themselves, and to remember that it isn’t enough to dream it. . . You must be it. Whatever your “it” is, I hope you find it and become it. It’s the very least you deserve!
